Why I Love Green Tea
I totally stopped drinking tea and coffee when pregnant with Reuben. Before this I would have the odd tea, but a coffee at least twice a day. I would have to have my coffee fix in the morning. I found I could not function without this coffee and would need a top up during the day.
My main problem was the fact I actually didn't really like the taste of coffee. I was a latte person, so my homemade coffees had lots of milk and lots of bad for you refined sugar. This extra daily sugar was not good. I'd tried to give up coffee a couple of times but never succeeded. After a few days of feeling dreadful I'd always cave in and quickly be back on my daily dose. There had to be something better I liked without so much sugar?
Well now I'm no longer pregnant, I've found it. Green tea!
I'd tried green tea on occasion in the past, but was never overly fussed. I decided to try it again recently after reading about its numerous health benefits. This time I was much more taken by the flavour and rather enjoyed it. Result! I only leave the tea bag in for a minute or so, meaning I can cope with the flavour and it wouldn't get too bitter. The more I drink it, the more I like it. It's even quite refreshing!
So, what is all the hype about green tea? Here are some of its best benefits:
- Contains powerful antioxidants which prevent ageing and disease
- Contains L-Theanine which can reduce stress, improve mood & improve brain function
- Reduced risk of certain cancers and heart disease
- Helps to treat skin conditions and so improves skin
- Promotes good oral health
This is just a tiny snippet of the benefits of drinking green tea. There are so many more and lots backed up by human research. Time to get drinking!
