Summer is one of the best seasons of the year to get outside. It’s time for you and your family to make use of your beautiful garden. One of the best ways to do this is to have a BBQ. It can be a very good time with delicious food and company. Here are five things you need to have a successful BBQ.
Plastic / paper plates and cutlery
If you want to have a BBQ, you will need some plates and cutlery for people to enjoy the food. And if you don’t want to have a pile of washing to deal with, then a good idea would be to use plastic plates and cutlery. That way, once everyone has eaten, you can recycle it all. Also, if people drop anything, you don’t have to worry as nothing is breakable.
If you want to have a BBQ, the main thing you need is some delicious food. What you put on the BBQ can depend on what you fancy that day. Meat is usually a common thing to BBQ, but if you're vegetarian like me try grilled halloumi, portobello mushrooms or a veggie burger. You should make sure to cook any meat for a bit first in the oven, before putting it on a BBQ. Salad and vegetables are ideal to serve up with the cooked food, and you could even put out any veg you have grown yourself to impress your guests. Remember to get some drinks in for everyone too or ask your guests to BYOB (bring your own beer) to be sure they have their favourite drinks!
To have a successful BBQ, you need equipment to cook it on. There are so many around in shops and online which might suit your needs. You should decide whether you want to build your own brick BBQ (here’s how to do it), which is becoming popular. Remember, if you have one already, check it’s working, and it’s safe. Otherwise, you may need to replace it with a new one. Disposable BBQs are also a great idea for a last minute garden party, should you not already own a BBQ.
Make sure you know how many people are coming and provide adequate seating. If you want to have a successful BBQ, you will need to dust off your garden furniture, and make sure to give it a wipe. Garden furniture tends to get dirty over the winter season. It's a good idea to put a cover over everything so that it’s protected and saves the hassle of cleaning.
Make sure you check the weather reports for the day you are planning to have the BBQ. Although they can sometimes be wrong, it’s a good idea to check so you know whether to rearrange for another day. There is nothing worse than having to cook in the rain, and If it does happen, it means you will have to eat inside.
Finally, pop some music on and enjoy. There's nothing better than a spot of alfresco dining, epecially with tasty food you've cooked outdoors!
