I’ve been trying to figure out the answer to this question for years. It seems every time you switch on TV or go online; you’re bombarded with ads about how to stay healthy. They make it seem like this massive challenge or an uphill climb. Don’t forget to take your supplements guys. If you don’t take your supplements, you’re not going to get the vitamins that your body needs! You need to do strenuous forms of exercise at least five times a week for about an hour.
As if that’s not enough we’re also constantly reminded of things that are bad for us that we should stay away from. That would be fine if the information we received was not constantly contradicting. Did you know that one glass of red wine a week could help you fight cancer? No, wait...now all wine is bad for you, and you shouldn’t drink it at any time.
I think it’s time that we simplify things. On this post I’m going to show you how staying healthy isn’t difficult at all. So forget the news reports you’ve read and the blogs you’ve already visited. Welcome to the truth of staying fit and staying healthy.
Forget About Artificial Supplements
Supplements aren’t worth your time. I know that seems like a generalization, but trust me, they’re not. Supplements are about as useful as taking a pill labeled miracle cure. You’d be suspicious, wouldn’t you? Supplements are no different. They’re a promise to improve your body and your fitness with no evidence to show that they do either. In fact, most researchers agree supplements are placebos. They have no real power at all. Right now, I’m only talking about the artificial supplements. You’re paying money for pills with vitamins that you probably get in your diet. The only reason to take a supplement is if you know that you’re not getting a specific vitamin. Even then, you’d be better just changing your diet. Trust me, altering your diet to include what you’re missing is far better for you.
Understanding The Importance Of Exercise
I’m not saying that exercise is bad but exercising obscene amounts is. You should only be completing forty-five minutes of pure exercise each day. What I mean by this is that this forty-five minutes shouldn’t include walking to work. I’m talking about going to the gym, lifting weights or jogging. These forms of pure exercise should be limited. Otherwise, you might damage your muscles in your race to get fit. As well as this, over exercising can cause you to start burning muscle rather than fat. When this happens, your body is getting weaker rather than stronger.
You can even take it one step further and complete just seven minutes of exercise each day. You can do this if your body is already in quite good shape. Seven minutes might be all you need. You just need to make sure that you’re completing the right forms of exercise. You should complete ten sets of any exercise such as sit-ups and pushups. You should only take at most sixty seconds of rest between each exercise. Do this and you’ll be completing the same routine as some Olympic athletes.
Bad Habits And Small Treats
The secret to good health is quite simple when you get right down to it. Anything in excess is probably going to be bad for you. Anything in small quantities won’t do you any harm at all. It’s as simple as that. Of course, there are some exceptions. For instance, smoking is always dangerous. This is a bad habit that you do want to avoid. If you’re really struggling to get the nicotine monkey off your back, try vaping.
Vaping is like smoking without the negative impact on your health. In fact, through vaping, you can get the feeling of smoking without the nasty chemicals. You can do this, by using an e-cigarette. E-cigarettes are filled with liquids that may or may not contain nicotine. You can find the best e-cig brand for sale online. You can start off with a nicotine substance if you need to and slowly cut back. Once you have done this, you’ll still be smoking, but you’ll be living a far healthier life. It will then make it even easier to stop smoking altogether.
Drinking alcohol is another bad habit that you might want to cut back on. You need to make sure you’re not drinking to excess. If you start to find yourself drinking more or not being able to go a day without an alcoholic drink, you need to cut back.
The same can be said for eating bad fatty, sugary foods and refined carbohydrates. It’s okay to treat yourself occasionally. But you shouldn’t be stuffing your body with this rubbish all the time. If you do that, you are going to get fat. However, that doesn’t mean that you have to avoid junk food all the time. You can feel free to eat at least some junk food on occasion. This isn’t going to have a huge impact on your health. But as well as occasionally eating junk food, you do need to make sure you eat a good, ‘real healthy’ diet.
How To Balance Your Diet
I know what you’re thinking. Balancing your diet just sounds like a nonsense phrase that “health professionals” use. Well, it can be, but it can also be a sage piece of advice. Balancing your diet just means that you include everything in it. For instance, you need to make sure you’re getting some carbohydrates, protein, fruit and veg. Cutting one or more things out of your diet isn’t the answer. Neither is eating once thing in excess. That’s why you need to be careful of diet plans that encourage you to do this. For instance, long term liquid diets, are not good for your body. Neither is the Atkins diet which encourages a low carb, high protein diet. Doing either of these things could deprive your body of substances that it needs.
Balancing your diet this way is easy. You just need to make sure that you are keeping track of what you are eating. If you like, you can keep a food journal. Some people find this very helpful. Or, you can set a meal plan for yourself and perhaps your family each week. By doing this, you can make sure you get everything you need in your diet.
It’s also worth mentioning that where possible, you should avoid skipping meals. Many people decide to skip meals because they think that it will help them lose weight. In fact, this isn’t true at all. If you skip a meal like breakfast, you’re more likely to pile on the pounds. Usually, this is because eating a meal jump starts your metabolism. Without it, your body won’t be burning as many calories.
Other Issues That Can Affect Your Health
There are a few other issues that you need to be careful of when you are trying to stay healthy. One is your sleeping pattern. Believe it or not, most issues with the body and the mind can be fixed with a good night’s sleep. But, very few people get the full night of sleep that they need. You should aim to sleep for eight hours each night. Anything less than this will affect how healthy your body is. If you find yourself getting restless in the night, try changing your diet. Eating bananas can provide you with the hormone that keeps your body still during the night. A restless night can stop you from getting the amount of sleep that you need.
Other people find themselves dealing with some form of insomnia. If you think you have this issue, don’t immediately resort to sleeping pills. Instead, try turning off all electronic devices in your room and relaxing with a book for half hour before bed. This might be exactly what you need to help you get to sleep.
High levels of stress can also play havoc with the body. If you are stressed, you might find that your body gets fatter even if your diet is good. You may also see your hair starting to fall out and your skin growing pasty. For many people, all their health issues have been caused by high levels of stress. That’s why you need to know how to tackle this issue.
Yoga is a great way to calm the body and the mind. With a few stretches when you get home, you’ll soon find your stress melts away. Breathing exercises can also be beneficial for preventing stress. You’ll provide your mind with the increase in levels of oxygen that you need to solve the issues causing you stress.
I hope you see now how simple staying healthy can be. Forget all the rubbish you’ve read about and stick to the basics; the things we’ve always known to keep us healthy.
