How to spice up your outfits + clothes
Posted on
Do you feel like your wardrobe choices can sometimes be a bit samey? You wear the same colours and styles again and again. They might suit you, but it's possible to get fed up of wearing similar clothes all the time.
If you think it's time for something different, though, you could be scared of trying something new.
You're not sure what will look good, and you don't want to risk trying something that doesn't work. But you can't discover new things if you're not prepared to step out of your comfort zone.
It's time to spice up your clothes and outfits! Broaden your wardrobe horizons by doing the things below.
Try out new colours
If you're frightened of trying new styles, start by mixing up your colours to create custom outfits. Everyone has favourite colours that they find collecting in their wardrobe. However, you don't want all your clothes to be different shades of the same one or two colours. Start branching out by looking for new hues you can wear. It's a good idea to start with the colours that are currently trendy. For example, yellow and orange are everywhere this summer. But remember, every colour comes in different shades. Just because bright, traffic light orange doesn't suit you, it doesn't mean a darker or lighter shade won't work.
Influence from around the world
If you want to push the boat out, you should try to find influences in many different places. Don't just look at what you see on the high street or what celebrities are currently wearing. Explore fashion from different cultures and subcultures to find out what appeals to you. That doesn't mean you have to start copying anything exactly. For example, you might not start wearing designer sarees, but you might like the colours and the glitter that they usually have. You can look into the past too, instead of just at the trends of the present.
Read blogs
Blogs are one of the best sources to find fashion inspiration. You can read magazines, but there's something about getting tips from the everyday people behind many fashion blogs. They're often just like you and can give you advice you can actually use. Start a list of your favourite blogs to follow to help you expand your wardrobe. They can tell you about new things to buy and how to style the items you own in new ways.
Find low-risk ways to try new things
Sometimes you don't want to buy something in case you later decide you don't want it. It might look good when you try it on but later you decide you were wrong. If this is holding you back, find ways to reduce the risk of a purchase you regret. For example, you can hire clothes for events if you want to try a style you're unsure about. You could also borrow things from friends, or go shopping in thrift stores or cheap online stores. Of course, there is often the option of returning an item you don't like too.
Don't let yourself get stuck in a fashion rut. If you want to expand your wardrobe, you have to be brave and try new things!
