Why I don’t have a New Year’s resolution
The topic of New Year’s resolutions has come up several times on Twitter and I really don’t have one this year. Ten years ago sensible resolutions would have been to quit smoking, drink less and eat healthier! But things are very different nowadays. I quit smoking over five years ago, I also haven’t drank any alcohol in this time and don’t plan on starting again, plus I’ve totally overhauled my vegetarian diet in the past three years and have almost gone refined sugar free. My only possible resolution would be to keep avoiding the refined sugar and go completely refined sugar free, but I’m not sure I’m totally there yet.
This is why I’m not making a resolution to do this. I don’t see the point in making a resolution if I’m not 100% sure I can keep it. It’s like lying to myself and others from the offset! I have strong will power and determination and if I really want to do something, then I will. I just have to decide I want to do it first. I’ve been thinking about it and I’m sure I might do it one day, but I’ll decide when that day is when I’m ready.
If I had to pick a New Year’s resolution then it would be to have more fun this year. I’d like more days out as a family trying new experiences and exploring places we’ve never been. I’d also like to have a date night with my husband at least once per month! By date night, I mean a night where we have a babysitter and go out just the two of us for a meal, or to the cinema, or even a hotel for the night if we’re lucky! I can’t make this a resolution though as we may not be able to stick to this either! I hope we can, but sometimes we can’t get childcare, or money is tight in certain months, or a whole month flies past with us barely noticing it!
