Welcome to my Money Making Blogger interview series where I interview bloggers who are making money from their blogs!
Read on to discover how they make money from blogging and the steps they took to monetize their blogs. Feel inspired and learn something new from this series! Also learn how many hours they spend on their blogs per week and what sort of income this provides.
I get to write every day and make money by doing what I love. It’s amazing and still amazes me each day, even two years into making money from my website. It’s not without a lot of hard work though, so don’t be fooled into thinking you simply set up a website and voila, income starts rolling in. If only! I work 30-40 hours per week currently and my blog is my life!
In this series I am going to interview other bloggers who also make money from their blogs to hopefully inspire people to start a blog if they wish or to make that leap to monetizing content. I also find it so interesting to learn what other bloggers are up to and even us full time bloggers can learn from each other and inspire one another.
Hello, please introduce yourself and tell us all about your money making blog.
We are Siddharth and Shruti, who are either wandering the world or playing video games in our pyjamas. We blog at siddharthandshruti.com.
How long have you been blogging for and when did you begin to monetize?
We started in 2016 and began monetizing in 2017.
What's your monthly blog income like? (Pocket money, part time, full time or if you're happy to share the figure)
Part time, we put whatever we make into our travels and blogging expenses.
How exactly do you make money from your blog? Tell us more about your favourite method?
We earn through affiliates as well as sponsored posts. Sponsored posts are easier to do but affiliates have a more long term passive benefits.
Were there any steps you took to prep your blog for making money?
We worked hard on our SEO. Google really makes a lot of difference. We also tried leveraging traffic through Pinterest.
Has it been an easy process to make money from your blog? Why?
No, it has been quite a struggle. But we are getting better. As our keywords are ranking better, our traffic is improving which in turn gives us better opportunities.
How many hours per week do you work on your blog? Has this changed over time?
We used to work a lot more, almost every day when we started. It is a learning process, and over time we have streamlined processes and understood our strengths and weaknesses. Shruti writes the initial draft whereas Siddharth is better at editing. Dividing the job has made our life much easier than each of us working on our own posts.
What are your aims for your blog in the future? Do you plan on increasing your income and how?
We do have tons of content ideas waiting in an excel sheet. We want to try and focus on getting better at keywords. We really are trying our best to get more relevant posts that are useful to our audience. We might look into ads in the future to increase our income.
If someone is totally new to blogging, what should they concentrate on most to start making money?
Content is king. But so is SEO. Start small and have a rough plan in mind. Everything takes time and patience. Sponsored posts are a great way to start but remember to keep it relevant. Do not take up collaborations that are not on point with your brand.
Are there any drawbacks to running a money making blog?
Unlike someone blogging for passion, the content needs to be geared towards profit making and not just a personal experience. There are times when it feels like any other job which makes it difficult to remain motivated.
What inspires you to blog and what is the best thing about blogging?
The best thing about blogging is that the ability to reach people from all across the globe. We love to share what we learn from our travels. The community that gets built around a blog is something to cherish. We have made so many new likeminded friends because of our blog.
Would you still blog even if you couldn’t make money doing it and why?
Yes, definitely. Travel blogging is our way of documenting our travels. Many details get lost over a period of time; blogging is our way of journaling and keeping them safe.
Do you think blogging is here to stay and why?
Unlike social media which is short lived, blogging is here to stay. You would still look up old posts for advice where as an Instagram picture will be buried and lost within days.
Thank you so much for taking part in my Money Making Blogger interview series and best of luck with your blog!
