Planning a first-time French Alps ski holiday but not sure which resort to choose?

With so many amazing locations in this beautiful part of the world, it’s tough selecting the one that will best satisfy every member of your group.

However, for a resort that’s all-round brilliant, it’s tough to beat Avoriaz part of the popular Les Portes du Soleil ski area which comprises 12 resorts in both France and Switzerland, this high altitude, snow-sure resort has fab family facilities, sublime mountain scenery, lively après-ski and pristine piste for skiers and snowboarders of all abilities.

Not convinced yet? You will be after reading the following three tips for an awesome Avoriaz ski holiday!

1.    Skiing

Avoriaz is a purpose-built resort designed by 1960 Olympic Downhill Champion Jean Vuarnet so, as you’d expect, the standard of the skiing here is superb.

Located at an altitude of 1800m and with access to slopes as high as 2466m, there are plenty of shaded north-facing runs here that hold their snow well and in the local area alone there are 76km of slopes, many of which are beginner and intermediate-friendly greens, blues and reds.

If you’re an experienced skier and fancy a challenge, try the ungroomed Swiss Wall run it’s a mind-blowing natural halfpipe which has lots of moguls after a dump of fresh powder.

2.    Après-ski

Whether you finish your day’s skiing at lunchtime or a little later in the afternoon, you can start unwinding immediately at the numerous brilliant bars and nightspots in Avoriaz and there’s something to suit revellers of every taste.

The Place is a Scandi-style pub that hosts a new live band every evening and it usually draws a dynamic crowd, Le Tavaillon is a traditional English style pub where you can watch live sports or simply relax with mates on the heated patio and chat over a few beers, while Le Shooters livens things up with a selection of over 50 types of shots.

Party at La Folie Douce in Avoriaz for a night to remember this cabaret-style bar offers an eclectic evening you’ll never forget, complete with tabletop dancing and trademark toffee vodka.

3.    Accommodation

Snowsports are fun but tiring, so you definitely need somewhere comfortable to rest and recuperate each evening ideally near both the slopes and the resort facilities and amenities.

There’s lots of accommodation to choose form in Avoriaz, but L’Amara is one of the best this lush child-friendly apartment complex has 204 plush suites of various sizes which can sleep between four and 12 guests, childcare can be arranged for an additional fee and there’s an onsite swimming pool, fitness room, steam room and jacuzzi.
