What Is Quidco and How Does It Work?

Quidco is one of the UK's biggest cashback sites, alongside TopCashback, and the mechanics are the same as earning cashback on everyday purchases generally: retailers pay Quidco a commission for sending them customers, and Quidco hands most of that commission back to you.

You search for the retailer you're shopping with, click through to their site via Quidco, and once the retailer confirms your purchase, the cashback lands in your account. It covers everyday shopping alongside bigger things like insurance, broadband deals, hotels and travel bookings.

It's completely free to join, no membership fee for the core service, and there's nothing to buy or sign up for beyond creating an account.

Why I Use Quidco as a Backup Rather Than My Main Cashback Site

As you may know from my other cashback articles, TopCashback is my main cashback account. It was the first site I used, and that's where the bulk of my cashback history lives, and it's easier to have one balance building up rather than splitting it across two. So my routine is: check TopCashback first, and if the retailer isn't listed, check Quidco next.

H&M is a good example of when that's actually mattered. TopCashback used to often not have cashback available for H&M when I went to check, so Quidco has genuinely been the one I've used for that particular retailer more than once.

That's just my own preference though. Plenty of people use Quidco as their main cashback site instead, and there's a real case for it, the website itself has a cleaner, more modern design that some people simply prefer, and it might cover more of the retailers you personally shop with, whether that's cheap car insurance or everyday shopping. If you've got a spare few minutes, it's worth signing up to both and seeing which one you naturally reach for first.

Is Quidco Legit?

Yes. It's been running for years, it's one of the two names that dominate the UK cashback space, and I've had hundreds of pounds worth of cashback paid out from it myself.

Like any cashback site, the money isn't instant, retailers need to confirm your purchase first, which can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks, but once it's confirmed, it's yours to withdraw.

The Quidco Browser Extension

Quidco has its own browser extension, called the Cashback Reminder, available for Chrome and Firefox on desktop (there's currently no mobile version).

When you land on a site where cashback is available, it pops up a notification with an "activate cashback" button, so you don't have to remember to search the retailer manually every time. It also shows cashback offers directly within your Google search results, which is a nice touch if you're comparing retailers before you've decided where to shop.

And if you don't find it too annoying having a few extension pop-ups, you could run TopCashback's extension, Quidco's, and any others all at the same time, so you can easily compare and pick the best cashback deal on whatever site you're shopping or booking on.

Existing members can earn cashback for referring people too, and it's one of the more generous refer a friend schemes among UK cashback sites. You get £20, your friend gets £10, and your £20 unlocks as soon as your friend has £5 of confirmed cashback in their own account. Quidco notifies you the moment that happens, so there's no guessing when your bonus lands.

Withdrawing Your Cashback (and the Gift Card Bonus Trick)

You can withdraw straight to your bank account or PayPal, but Quidco also lets you take your balance as a retailer gift card instead, and doing so pays extra on top. Free members get what Quidco calls a "basic payout bonus", Premium (paid) members get roughly double that as a "premium payout bonus".

How much extra depends entirely on the retailer. Everyday names like Amazon or B&Q sit at the low end, around 1-2% basic. Places like John Lewis, M&S and Tesco offer a bit more. The standout ones are experience gift cards, Buyagift and Red Letter Days both offer a 12.5% basic bonus, jumping to 25% for Premium members.

These figures shift over time, so it's worth checking the current rate for a retailer you actually use before deciding how to cash out, but they were correct at the time of writing from my withdraw screen on Quidco.

Quidco or TopCashback: Does It Matter Which One You Pick?

Not hugely, honestly. I use TopCashback as my main account purely because it's the first cashback site I ever used, so I just kind of stuck with it, but there's no objectively "better" choice between the two.

It comes down to which retailers you shop with most, and which site's app or interface you simply prefer using day to day. Quidco's cleaner, more modern design is a genuine draw for some people over other cashback sites, so if that matters to you, it's worth a look.

I also use another cashback website called Budgey and several other receipt cashback and gift card cashback apps alongside these two, since different apps have different ways of earning cashback, from shopping online, to pre-buying gift cards, to uploading receipts.
