Riverford Review: First Delivery and Impressions

Before moving house in 2021, we used to get Abel and Cole deliveries, which we loved. But when we discovered they didn't deliver to our new area, I went looking for another organic veg delivery service.

Riverford Review: Six Months On

Six months later, I popped back to update this post because we were still happily ordering every week.

Deliveries were reliable and usually left in our safe place. Once, or twice, the driver left it on the doorstep, but a quick message to Riverford sorted it out straight away.

The veg quality stayed great. Sometimes the carrots or potatoes arrived with a bit more mud than usual, but I kind of like that. It feels like proper veg, not overly scrubbed or packaged.

I also love how the boxes change each week. It pushes us to try new things and keeps our meals interesting. And because it's a subscription box, we never forget to stock up. You can pause, switch box types, or skip a week whenever you like.

They also sell a full range of extras like bread, pantry bits, and juice, so you can do most of your food shop with them if you want to.

Riverford Review: Over 4 Years On (Still Happy Customers!)

Fast forward to now and we're still Riverford customers. That's over 4 years of deliveries, and honestly, we're still just as pleased.

The flexibility has only improved. You don't even have to stick with a set box anymore. Some weeks, I build my own order instead, picking the fruit, salad, and veg we actually need. It's a little more expensive than the pre-set boxes, but perfect for weeks when the usual mix doesn't quite fit what we're planning.

The quality's still great. Everything tastes like food should taste: full of flavour, fresh, and never wrapped in unnecessary plastic. It's become part of our rhythm now. We know Friday mornings mean a doorstep box of good food from people who genuinely care about what they grow.

What I'd Love Riverford to Improve

If I could tweak one thing, it would be having the option to permanently exclude items we don't like. Abel & Cole has this feature, and it's brilliant.

Riverford has actually moved a bit closer to this now. Some boxes let you swap out a few items you don't fancy, though it's not available on every box type yet. It's a step in the right direction, and I'd love to see it rolled out everywhere.

I'd also love to see more vegan options in their grocery range altogether, there just aren't that many at the moment. We sometimes treat ourselves to their sourdough bread, rolls, and orange juice (all delicious) but a few more plant-based staples would be amazing.

Overall, though, we're genuinely happy. It's convenient, flexible, and supports ethical farming, which matters to us.
