In the summer months at low tide the network of caves at Plemont Beach are well worth a visit. Or if you fancy exerting some extra energy together then climb the sand dunes on the west of the island at St Ouen’s Bay. Reach the top for the best views across the ocean.
The Hungry Man
Established in 1946, The Hungry Man in Jersey offers cheap and cheerful food at under £10 per person from a colourful and retro stall. For a light hearted non-formal date in the great outdoors, this is a fun place to grab a gourmet burger, breakfast roll, cream tea, ice cream and even more. Set on the pier at Rozel harbour overlooking the picturesque bay.
Look for wildlife at Val de la Mare Reservoir
The second largest reservoir on the island is host to many species of birds, flora and wildlife. The walk around the entire reservoir is 4.5km or there are other walking routes too. There’s even an arboretum to encourage more wildlife and provide a safe haven.
Le Petit Train
This little land train offers a tour if you and your date wish to learn more about the island in a fun way whilst giving fantastic views of St Aubin’s Bay.
La Corbiere lighthouse
So you’ve found your date on a local Jersey dating site and want a chilled, but interesting first date that doesn’t cost the Earth? How about a visit to La Corbiere lighthouse on the west coast of Jersey? At high tide the striking white lighthouse sits proudly on its rock island out to sea, but at low tide you can walk the causeway to see the lighthouse upfront. It’s also a beautiful place to catch a sunset with the dramatic rocks and lighthouse silhouettes.
The Sand Wizard
A visit to one of the most impressive sand castles you will perhaps ever see by the ‘Sand Wizard’. In St Catherine, the sand sculpture is housed in a protective dome and can be viewed for free, although donations are welcome. The owner is present on site to answer questions and talk about his amazing sculptures. A quick attraction, but quirky and worthwhile.
Bird watch at Jersey Wetland Centre
Based in St Ouen is The National Trust for Jersey Wetland Centre. Here you can access the centre through a tunnel to see panoramic views of St Ouen’s Pond to spot birds and wildlife. Entrance is free and there is also information to hand about the birds and wetlands. If you’re in need of money saving travel tips then joining The National Trust offers great value with many ideas of beautiful free locations to visit as well as free parking and entrance at many paid sites.
