Charity (The Grand Appeal)

fundraising for the grand appeal at bristol childrens hospital - lylia rose

Lylia Rose supports Wallace & Gromit's The Grand Appeal (The Bristol Children's Hospital Charity)

Donation Total up to 31/01/17: £370

Since the end of 2015 I support The Bristol Children’s Hospital Charity, better known asWallace and Gromit's The Grand Appeal, with regular donations from my profits.

My baby boy, Reuben, has had two stays in this wonderful hospital since his birth in March 2015.  The whole team were simply fantastic - they provided a welcoming environment and much needed support during such stressful times, as well as plenty of useful facilities for our stay.  Reuben has pulmonary stenosis and underwent two balloon dilation procedures to his heart within the first six months of his life.

Reuben’s valve is sadly very thick and knobbly, so we were informed they will never fully relieve the extra pressure in his heart with this procedure.  Unfortunately the second balloon dilation made little difference, so the next option might be open heart surgery.  Truly scary stuff.  Reuben will also need a valve replacement once he is an adult.

Once the Lylia Rose shop was making regular sales I always knew I wanted to support a charity.  I never expected it to be a charity that would actually become a real part of our lives, but I now couldn’t think of a better cause to support.

The Grand Appeal aims to ‘transform the lives of sick babies and children at Bristol Children’s Hospital and the Special Care Baby Unit, providing life-saving equipment, patient activities, new services and family accommodation.’  Being one of the UK’s leading children’s hospitals, they treat a staggering 100,000 patients every year.
