Welcome to my Money Making Blogger interview series where I interview bloggers who are making money from their blogs!

Read on to discover how they make money from blogging and the steps they took to monetize their blogs.  Feel inspired and learn something new from this series!  Also learn how many hours they spend on their blogs per week and what sort of income this provides.

I get to write every day and make money by doing what I love.  It’s amazing and still amazes me each day, even two years into making money from my website.  It’s not without a lot of hard work though, so don’t be fooled into thinking you simply set up a website and voila, income starts rolling in.  If only!  I work 30-40 hours per week currently and my blog is my life!

In this series I am going to interview other bloggers who also make money from their blogs to hopefully inspire people to start a blog if they wish or to make that leap to monetizing content.  I also find it so interesting to learn what other bloggers are up to and even us full time bloggers can learn from each other and inspire one another.

Money making blogger interview with Liza Tripsget (1)

Hello, please introduce yourself and tell us all about your money making blog.

My name is Liza and I run a travel and lifestyle blog for young adventurous professionals - Tripsget

How long have you been blogging for and when did you begin to monetize?

I’ve been blogging for almost 3 years now, however, I only started to monetise 1.5 years ago.

What's your monthly blog income like?

It’s relatively small, I’d say in the £500 range, but I work full-time, so I don’t accept many sponsored posts and don’t do massive outreach.

How exactly do you make money from your blog?

My favourite method is definitely advertising. I love Mediavine and I think it’s a great way to monetise your blog. I also get affiliate income and sponsored posts, but it’s less reliable and depends on the season.

Were there any steps you took to prep your blog for making money?

Not really, I just started producing better quality content.

Has it been an easy process to make money from your blog?

Definitely not - I had to learn a lot about SEO and spend a lot of time on social media as well. However, once I reached 25,000 sessions a month, it got easier.

How many hours per week do you work on your blog?

I work 10-15 hours a week on the blog.

What are your aims for your blog in the future?

I would like to grow it more and reach at least 100,000 page views in the next couple of years.

If someone is totally new to blogging, what should they concentrate on most to start making money?

    High-quality content and keyword research

What inspires you to blog and what is the best thing about blogging?

The fact that my content is useful to people and I get a lot of positive feedback! Also, free trips and stays, of course.

Would you still blog even if you couldn’t make money doing it and why?

I would still blog, but I wouldn’t write my posts around keywords, I would just use it more as a diary.

Do you think blogging is here to stay and why?

It’s definitely here to stay. It always existed in different forms, so why should it go?

Thank you so much for taking part in my Money Making Blogger interview series and best of luck with your blog!

Money making blogger interview with Kacie of The Rare Welsh Bit (1)

Hello, please introduce yourself and tell us all about your money making blog.

I’m Kacie and I write a food and travel blog called The Rare Welsh Bit.

How long have you been blogging for and when did you begin to monetize?

I’ve been blogging for eight years but I only really began to make money from my blog within the last 2-4 years, and it increased gradually over time.

What's your monthly blog income like? (Pocket money, part time, full time or if you're happy to share the figure)

    Blogging is my full-time job.

How exactly do you make money from your blog? Tell us more about your favourite method?

Sponsored content, affiliate links, sponsored events, recipe development and social media promotions.

Were there any steps you took to prep your blog for making money?

No, I never set out to make money from my blog initially.

Has it been an easy process to make money from your blog? Why?

No. Many of my friends think I have the best job in the world, being able to eat out and travel all the time, but it comes at a cost. I work every day of the week and probably work far longer every week than I ever did when I worked full-time. It’s difficult to switch off when you need to be monitoring social media and ensuring a steady flow of content to your blog. My income fluctuates enormously too, which can be stressful at times.

How many hours per week do you work on your blog? Has this changed over time?

Around 60 hours per week currently and this has increased over time because my blog used to be a side hobby, but now it’s my full time job.

What are your aims for your blog in the future? Do you plan on increasing your income and how?

I plan to develop more of a passive income through affiliate advertising and I will be making more use of my journalism background to secure more freelance writing work too.

If someone is totally new to blogging, what should they concentrate on most to start making money?

Finding something they genuinely love, which they are prepared to blog about even if the money doesn’t come straight away - because believe me, it doesn’t happen overnight.

Are there any drawbacks to running a money making blog?

    Fluctuating income, big time commitment

What inspires you to blog and what is the best thing about blogging?

My love for writing and photography inspire me to blog so that I can share my experiences with others. I love being able to shout about the brands, products and destinations that mean the most to me and encourage my readers to try them out for themselves.

Would you still blog even if you couldn’t make money doing it and why?

Yes, and I did for many years. I am passionate about food and travel and I enjoy writing and taking photos, so I guess you could say blogging comes naturally to me.

Do you think blogging is here to stay and why?

I’m in two minds. On the one hand, if done properly, influencer marketing can be extremely effective and impactful. Sadly, however, there are lots of influencers buying their way to success through means such as fake followers and artificial traffic, combined with a general lack of adequate disclosure and transparency across the whole industry. I do worry that the blogging bubble could burst if these negative aspects of the industry aren’t addressed adequately in the near future, which is one of the reasons why I’m diversifying my income by taking on more freelance writing projects again.

I get to write every day and make money by doing what I love.  It’s amazing and still amazes me each day.  It’s not without a lot of hard work though, so don’t be fooled into thinking you simply set up a website and voila, income starts rolling in.  If only!  I work 30-40 hours per week currently and my blog is my life!

Money making blogger interview with Alexia Los Angeles Mamma Blog (2)

Hello, please introduce yourself and tell us all about your money making blog.

I’m Alexia from http://www.losangelesmammablog.com. I’ve been blogging for years and really just started the blog just to share my experiences as a new mother shortly after I had my daughter 8 years ago. It turned into a side income soon after.

How long have you been blogging for and when did you begin to monetize?

Over 8 years.  I monetized about 6 months into blogging

What's your monthly blog income like? (Pocket money, part time, full time or if you're happy to share the figure)

It’s more pocket money and definitely part time as I have a full time job. Some months I make $300 and some I make $1500. It’s not consistent.

How exactly do you make money from your blog?

Sponsored posts and being an affiliate to programs I believe in and use myself.

Were there any steps you took to prep your blog for making money?

Basically writing on the blog regularly and building an audience, using social media to engage with other bloggers, PR, and brands. Basically just being open to opportunities that came my way, accepting lower payment at first and gradually growing from experience

Has it been an easy process to make money from your blog? Why?

I wouldn’t say it has been easy, it takes effort to keep putting my blog out there and contacting brands I want to work with. On occasion I have good opportunities come my way, but I still feel it’s due to my constant work trying to get my blog out there and visible.

How many hours per week do you work on your blog? Has this changed over time?

Probably about 20 - it’s daily whenever I have downtime. It hasn’t changed over time.  I think it’s a constant effort but I enjoy it, so it’s pleasant work. Seeing the benefits in pay and extra money in the household makes it all the more worth it.

What are your aims for your blog in the future? Do you plan on increasing your income and how?

I would love to increase my income. I just want to continue to grow the blog. Interests and focus have changed over time, from a parenting blog I would say it has evolved to more lifestyle. Also, with the purchase of our first home in the beginning of this year, home, interior decor and gardening have become a focus.

If someone is totally new to blogging, what should they concentrate on most to start making money?

I think concentrate on keeping your blog updated, make connections with other bloggers and networks on social media.

Are there any drawbacks to running a money making blog?

Yes, downtime is difficult to get. Constantly being on Twitter and other platforms, posting and doing all the work instead of just taking time to be with family when not at work.

What inspires you to blog and what is the best thing about blogging?

I love writing. I always have. Getting to work with brands I have always admired and just the opportunity to receive these perks and speak about my own experiences with products I love is definitely gratifying.

Would you still blog even if you couldn’t make money doing it and why?

I think so, it’s fun for me.

Do you think blogging is here to stay and why?

Yes. More and more bloggers are popping up. I think brands like the real person experience and that level of marketing is something that can be honest and relatable to potential consumers (when honestly and transparency are there).

Money making blogger interview with Louise Rose Railton (1)

Hello, please introduce yourself and tell us all about your money making blog.

I’m Louise and I blog over on https://louiseroserailton.com. What began as a fashion blog has transformed into a lifestyle blog and a source of income.

How long have you been blogging for and when did you begin to monetize?

I began blogging in 2013, but didn’t start my current blog until 2014. It took a year for me to take the plunge and begin to monetise my blog.

What's your monthly blog income like? (Pocket money, part time, full time or if you're happy to share the figure)

My monthly blog income can differ month to month. It’s usually around an average part time income each month.

How exactly do you make money from your blog? Tell us more about your favourite method?

I earn money via sponsored posts, ad placements and link insertions. I have also worked on the odd paid collab/press trip every so often. I know there are plenty of other ways to monetise, but this is what works for me currently!

Were there any steps you took to prep your blog for making money?

I honestly was just offered my first sponsored post and decided to accept it, therefore realising I needed to take the plunge and register as self-employed.

Has it been an easy process to make money from your blog? Why?

Some months are tougher than others. There can be quiet spells.

How many hours per week do you work on your blog? Has this changed over time?

This does change but on average I’d say I spend 10-20 hours working on my blog.

What are your aims for your blog in the future? Do you plan on increasing your income and how?

I try to keep my expectations and goals at a regular level. I’m just happy plodding along at the pace I’ve been going at. Of course, we would all love to become more successful! But I’m aware I probably won’t be the next Zoella (or similar) haha.

If someone is totally new to blogging, what should they concentrate on most to start making money?

Create your content. Focus on getting decent quality content out there on your blog and build on it from there.

Are there any drawbacks to running a money making blog?

It can be stressful when there is quieter periods, but I try to stick with it because I do genuinely love it.

What inspires you to blog and what is the best thing about blogging?

The best thing about blogging for me is the creative freedom. It inspires me to cover topics which I’m interested in and passionate about.

Would you still blog even if you couldn’t make money doing it and why?

Of course - probably not on the same scale as I do now, but I’ve always enjoyed writing.

Do you think blogging is here to stay and why?

For sure! Yes, the blogosphere is oversaturated, but focus on you and what you enjoy. Your blog should showcase your wonderful personality.

Money making blogger interview with Chloe Life Unexpected (1)

Hello, please introduce yourself and tell us all about your money making blog.

Hi, I'm Chloe and I run a family lifestyle blog called Life Unexpected. I'm 29 years old and I live in Cornwall with my fiancé, my four year old daughter Evie and our baby to be who is due in February. My blog covers life as a work at home Mum, family travel, kids activities, pregnancy and life with a four year old.

How long have you been blogging for and when did you begin to monetize?

I started blogging back in 2014 when my daughter was born. I began to monetise about three months after I started, when I was offered my first sponsored post.

What's your monthly blog income like? (Pocket money, part time, full time or if you're happy to share the figure)

My income varies from month to month. Some months I earn £500, some I'll earn £3000. But, on average I earn about £1500 a month from blogging.

How exactly do you make money from your blog? Tell us more about your favourite method?

I earn money through sponsored posts, brand collaborations, brand ambassadorships, social media campaigns and a very small amount from affiliate links.

Were there any steps you took to prep your blog for making money?

Yes! I put a lot of time into making sure that my blog looked professional. I did this by investing in a good blog theme and by making sure that my branding was fluid across all social media channels. I also really focused on what content I was putting out and making sure that my posts were all relative and helpful for a specific audience.

Has it been an easy process to make money from your blog? Why?

Yes and no. It definitely wasn't easy at first, but it’s getting easier with time. Over the years I've grown relationships with PRs and brands and this has helped to make it easier to land campaigns and sponsored posts. But at first it took a lot of pitching, a lot of searching for paid opportunities and a lot of months where I'd either earn nothing or a little bit.

How many hours per week do you work on your blog? Has this changed over time?

40+ hours. This has definitely changed over time. Once upon a time I was working 80 hours a week on my blog. I felt like I had to work this much to get recognised and to earn any money and I was afraid of stopping. I actually reached a point of burnout and had to take some time off my blog which ended up being a great thing (although it didn't feel like it at the time). It make me realise that I didn't need to spend so much time on my blog, instead I needed to be more smart with the time I have.

What are your aims for your blog in the future? Do you plan on increasing your income and how?

I do plan on increasing my income. I'm actually in the process of creating some products to sell in an online store via my blog. I'm also putting together some courses and an e-book on how to grow your social media channels and how to 'brand yourself'. This will be targeted at bloggers and small businesses. I'm hoping this will become passive income in the future.

If someone is totally new to blogging, what should they concentrate on most to start making money?

I have lots of tips but I think the most important it to work on creating a solid brand. Make sure your blog and social channels look professional and also make sure that they are consistent and that you aren't posting random things. A good way to make sure you are focusing on one thing is to write down your 'why' and 'who you are trying to reach' and to always try and stick to that in both your blog and on your social media channels every time you update. Not only will you quickly build a community by doing this, but brands and PRs will want to work with you more because they'll be able to see straight away why you are a good fit for them.

Are there any drawbacks to running a money making blog?

The only drawbacks I found is something I've since corrected. Once upon a time I started to lose my audience off because I was posting too many paid sponsored posts that were really random and that weren't really connected to what my blog was about. I realised quite early on that I was alienating my audience by accepting all these posts. Nowadays I don't accept every paid post that comes my way. I only work with brands I genuinely rave about. Believe me, it really is hard to say no to paid posts (especially when some of the offers are really good), but my audience now really respects my blog and trusts that what I'm putting out is something I genuinely love and support.

What inspires you to blog and what is the best thing about blogging?

I really love helping others and for me that is the biggest inspiration. I try and make my blog a go to destination for busy Mums who are looking for a connection. Whether they are working Mums looking to find the balance, or they're Mums looking for pregnancy tips, or travel inspiration or easy kids activities to do. I also love the sense of community that comes with blogging and the fact that blogging can take you anywhere you want it to!

Would you still blog even if you couldn’t make money doing it and why?

Yes! I initially started my blog as a hobby and if in the future I stop earning from it for any reason, I'll definitely be carrying on with it. I love blogging so much.

Do you think blogging is here to stay and why?

I think blogging is here to stay. Nowadays if I want information about things, I tend to look for other people’s opinions. I find posts on Google and Pinterest. Unlike Instagram updates and stories, blog posts have longevity and that’s what I love about them!
