Everything you need to know about looking after your eyes
Posted on
Looking after your eyes is crucial if you want to keep your eyesight in good condition. In some cases, problems are hereditary and cannot be stopped. That doesn’t mean you should neglect your eyes and leave it to fate to decide! Start taking care of your eyes and you’ll enjoy clearer eyesight, even as you age. This post will help you.
Important eye care tips
Never miss an opticians appointment
Depending on the condition of your eyes, you’ll get a letter telling you to book an opticians appointment. This might be every 6 months, every year, or every few years. Make sure you don’t miss your optician's appointment. It might cost money, but it’ll cost money in the long run if you end up with a more serious problem. If you notice any change in your eyes, make sure you don’t delay. This could be crucial to making you healthy again. If you’ve ever had glasses from the optician, you may need to visit regularly to get the lenses changed as your eyesight changes. Wearing the same glasses you had a year ago could make your eyes worse!
Don’t use cheap makeup and cosmetics
Using cheap makeup or cosmetics could be dangerous to your eyes. Out of date makeup or cheap contact lenses, for instance, can give you infections or seriously damage your sight. Make sure you only get these things from reputable sellers. You can get a three month supply of lenses online to save you having to look in dodgy places.
Take a break from the computer
If you work on the computer, you may eventually experience problems with your sight as you’re looking at things up close all the time. Make sure you take a break every so often to help your eyes. Taking a break from the computer could benefit your work too. You can even practice eye exercises in between, like focusing on something further away.
Wear sunglasses
Wear sunglasses when the sun shines to protect your eyes. Yes, even in the winter! This is the only way you’ll protect not only your eyes, but the delicate skin around your eyes too. It’s always worth investing in a good pair of glasses. Sunglasses are not just for when the weather is warm, so carry them with you wherever you go!
Keep dangerous things away from your eyes
Keep dangerous things away from your eyes, like sparklers and fireworks. Accidents can happen!
Wear safety gear where appropriate
Where appropriate, make sure you wear safety gear. Safety goggles should be worn in many circumstances, so don’t think that you’re an exception. This could be the difference between losing and keeping your sight.
Eat the right foods
Did you know a healthy diet is important for your eye health too? Eating the right foods is a must.
Start looking after your eyes properly and you can be confident your eyesight will remain great as you get older. Eyesight can deteriorate at any age, for any reason. That doesn’t mean we can’t take care of it though! Use these tips and your eyes will benefit.
