Money Making Mums Blogger Interview: Laura from Five Little Doves

Posted on

Hello, welcome to my Money Making Mums Interview.  Please tell me a little about who you are, where you’re from and where you blog.

I'm Laura, wife of one and Mummy and five. We live in Lancashire where I'm a stay at home Mum and a blogger at www.fivelittledoves.com

This series is all about mums being able to make money from home.  Can you tell me what you do from home to make money?

I blog, I write, I do free-lance work when possible, anything at all that I can do in-between looking after the children and ferrying them to and from the many places we need to be each day!

What makes it suitable for mums?

I can be here at home for the children which is the main thing for me. We waited for such a long time for our children and went to hell and back to get them, going back to work was never an option (nor could we afford the child care!) so this is perfect.

What do you love about working from home?

I'm my own boss, which I LOVE! If I want to take a day off then I do! As long as I meet my deadlines I have no set working hours although that does often mean I'm up til the early hours getting things done!

What are your top three negatives to working from home?

So many distractions, that's definitely the biggest one for me! Without the beady eyes of work colleagues I can easily waste a morning nosying on Facebook or reading random articles on the internet! I'm a serial procrastinator!

Some days I don't leave the house, and that's always slightly depressing! If the children are in school or nursery I can end up stuck indoors the whole day!

The children!! They are the biggest negative to working from home as, although I try not to work when they are here, there are days when I really have to get something done and they make it impossible to concentrate! A simple task can end up taking hours!

If you could only pick one, either working from home or working in an office for the rest of your life, which would you pick?

Definitely from home. As much as it has its negatives, it's the perfect solution for me with the children.

Lots of people say they’d find it hard to stay motivated if working alone at home.  What keeps you motivated?

Luckily I am passionate about what I do. Writing has always been my dream and there is nothing more motivational than knowing you are achieving your dreams.

Do you have a favourite quote to keep you inspired?

My favourite quote is an Albert Camus quote, "In the midst of Winter, I found there was within me, an invincible Summer." It's my absolute favourite and I write it on the front page of every diary.

Do you have any advice or words of wisdom to share with mums wanting to make their own income from home?

My advice would be to take the plunge and just go for it. I think there will always be doubts in your mind as to whether you can make something work or whether it’s the right thing to do, the right timing, the best way to make money. The truth is you'll never know until you try so you might as well just go for it!

Thanks so much to Laura for taking part in my Money Making Mums series.
