Talking about death and what we want to happen is a conversation that many people put off.  I’m very open about it and have even gone as far as making my own funeral playlist, but I appreciate some people find their own death difficult to talk about.

Whilst it can be a sensitive topic to discuss or even have to think about, end of life planning is really important to ensure we do not burden our loved ones with undue stress when we pass.

As much as it might sadden us, one day our time will come and we will leave behind loved ones.  Of course we all know it’s essential to have a will in place, to ensure our wishes are granted with regards to the division of any assets we leave behind, but what about the rest?

Who can access my What If Solved library?

You can add up to three owners who can access and edit the library.  This is useful if you and your spouse, for example, wish to share the What If Solved library.  Otherwise, you may wish to be the only owner.

You can then appoint trustees who will receive your library on the event of your death.  If you do not check in to one of your alerts from What If Solved then they will call you to see what has happened and check everything is well. Officially, after 3 check-ups they will hand everything over to your trustees.

I did check with What If Solved if this process will be quick, as in my experience things move quickly to arrange funerals and organise paperwork when a person dies and they assured me it is: "Yes, handing over the account will be fast. Even after 1st check-up, if we realise there is a problem, we are able to hand over the library to trustees." 

You can choose whoever you want to be your trustees, but I’d recommend picking the executors of your will and anyone you completely trust.

I would also recommend telling them about What If Solved and letting them know they are your trustees.  That way they are aware all this information exists and can access it on the event of your death.

The check-up alerts are 30, 60 or 90 days.  I would recommend setting at 30 days as funerals and organisation can often move quickly after a death, so you’ll want this information accessible as quickly as possible.

You may also wish to add another owner, who you explicitly trust, who can access your documents as soon as you die so they don’t have to wait for the alert.

How much does What If Solved cost?

What If Solved offers a free trial for 30 days so you can access the platform, explore the benefits and see if it’s right for you.

No card details are taken on signup and you can decide if you wish to continue after 30 days.  

If so, the charge is £50 annually.  That’s just over £4 per month to organise your affairs and save distress to your nearest and dearest.
