5 tips for keeping yourself healthy when travelling abroad

When travelling abroad, it is important to make sure that you are prepared for the duration of the trip with all the items and medication that you will need.

But where should you start when it comes to keeping yourself healthy before you travel?

To help you out, we will be providing you with a list of 5 ways that you can keep as healthy as possible when travelling.

Get as much sleep as you can

Though you may not feel as though you have time to do this, making sure that you get as much sleep as possible will aid you in maintaining your mental and physical health when you are travelling.

With between 7-8 hours of sleep, you are able to think clearly and go through the motions of the day to day with less stress.

Make sure you have all your medication before you travel

Another element that you need to consider is having the medication that you need when you are travelling. These should be kept in your suitcase alongside your global health insurance card in the front pocket of your suitcase and will ensure that you can travel safely.

You should pack enough of your prescription medication for the duration of the trip alongside other pain medication that you may need.

Make sure you are drinking water

Drinking water is perhaps one of the most important aspects when it comes to our everyday health, however, it is often something that is forgotten.

By drinking water regularly, you can maintain regular digestion and can prevent headaches and other elements that lead to dehydration.

This will allow you to travel feeling at your very best throughout the course of the trip and will allow you to spend time out in the sun with no concerns.

Battle the jet lag

Though this may seem like an impossible task, trying to stay awake and sleep at your normal bedtime in this time zone, will help you to battle the jetlag. This is a tactic that frequent travellers use and can enable you to beat it once and for all to help you enjoy your trip more.

It’s said that if you are travelling east then it can help to go to bed one hour earlier for a few nights before your trip.  If west, then go to bed one hour later for a few days before your trip.  If your trip is only a couple of days, then keep everything the same.

Plan everything to reduce stress

The final way that you can keep healthy when travelling is by planning as much as you can. This can help to improve mental health and reduce the amount of stress that you are experiencing when travelling. Not only will this make the trip more enjoyable, but it will also allow you to come home feeling more stressed than ever before. When you begin to reduce the stress, you will find that your eating habits are improved, sleeping is improved and overall mental health is improved therefore making the act of travelling far more enjoyable for everyone involved.
