How can work and modern life affect a person
We are living in a highly stressful world. Not just because of pandemics and current events, but our own personal lives were already pretty stressful already. Our lives have become more switched on with modern technology and many of us struggle to leave work at work. There’s a blurry line between home and work life, particularly for those of us who work at home, and let’s be fair, nowadays most people are finding themselves working from home!
The problem with this is work is always accessible and there is no clear divide. We can always just check another email or finish that project, instead of leaving it until Monday or our next working day. There are also many roles that expect people to be switched on all the time, with no thanks or even pay rise.
In my husband’s previous role he was expected to be on call every weekend, even when we were on a trip away and hiking up a mountain! It was a new addition to his role and there was no increase in pay for this added responsibility - it was just an expectation, or rather demand that he had to do it. So, even when people are supposed to be on their days off or annual leave, many still can’t relax and forget about work. The option to switch off completely has been taken away from them.
As well as work roles being demanding, many of us are worried about money. Right now we need to work as hard as possible to pay off our mortgage and ensure we have a nest egg for our future. Otherwise, how will we pay for our retirement? This financial pressure is what keeps us working as hard as we can and maximizing our earnings, albeit at the sake of our mental health sometimes. Trying to run businesses, be successful and raise a family at the same time can be quite stressful at times.
It’s the same for many people, whether employed or self-employed. People are working hard to ensure their families have financial security, to meet the demands of a switched on workforce with no escape, as well as securing their jobs. It can be hard to say no to an employer when they place extra demands on you, especially in a fragile economy. Everyone wants monetary security and job security.
Everyone is feeling the stress of modern life
We all know what stress is and we all handle it differently. Nowadays stress levels are up, and that definitely needs to change.
Where do most of us spend our time? At work, right? And most people admittedly find their work stressful, or at least elements of it. Add to that constant new technology, the hustle and bustle of our everyday lives, and at last, keeping up with the Joneses and taking pictures while we try. All this has made our life stressful, and it is only at the end of the day that we come to realise that personal care and overall well-being are given the back seat.
Stress and pressure come with combining taking care of our families with workforce stress. Gah! So how should we move forward? How can we begin to achieve a better work-life balance?
CBD - a natural response to many problems
One thing that can definitely relieve the pressure of stress, anxiety and even sleepless nights is a natural remedy called CBD. It works in conjunction with your body’s own natural endocannabinoid system to help you achieve a state of homeostasis.
As Live Science explains, homeostasis is “Homeostasis is the ability to maintain a relatively stable internal state that persists despite changes in the world outside. All living organisms, from plants to puppies to people, must regulate their internal environment to process energy and ultimately survive.”
Achieving a state of homeostasis means our bodies can handle stress effectively and with CBD, our bodies can achieve this naturally.
The use of CBD products is a way to relieve depression and workforce stress naturally
CBD products have taken the world by storm recently. A lot of research has been done in this field, but unfortunately, not quite enough to prove all its miracle-making properties for good.
But what is CBD? In nutshell, it is a chemical or a type of cannabinoid which the plant Cannabis Sativa contains. You may associate the cannabis plant with THC, but this is just one cannabinoid it contains, amongst many others which have lots of health benefits. THC is likely to get you high and cause addiction, while CBD is devoid of any psychoactive effects.
The cannabinoid CBD is actually used widely for medicinal purposes, such as regulating the immune system, alleviating pain and seizures, benefiting the sleep cycle, balancing mood and even aiding digestion. There are numerous studies and ongoing research into all its amazing health benefits. What is of paramount importance is that it does all this naturally and, as a result, provides the best solution to long- term well-being.
There are a wide range of products on the market when it comes to CBD and various ways to consume it, depending on your preference. One of the most popular methods is to take raw CBD oil which often has a distinct taste, though flavoured or tasteless oils are available, or you can buy CBD capsules (my preferred method) or CBD gummies. CBD Armour have a wide range of high quality products to get you started.
So how can CBD help with work related stress? CBD can relieve depression, help with anxiety and stress issues. These conditions are intertwined and the majority of them are associated with those of us who work, both at offices and from home. A lot of stress and anxiety can be linked to work and CBD can be a natural way to help us feel better by calming us and relaxing us, so we can tackle stressful days at work in a better mind-set.
These are possible workplace stresses that CBD oil may be able to help with:
- Sleep quality
The causes of the above mentioned stresses can be various: hectic schedules, demanding bosses, tight deadlines, poor work-life balance. All this contribute immensely to one or more of these conditions.
How CBD helps to improve work-related stress and other conditions
CBD can help to improve how our body responds to serotonin - our ‘happy hormone’.
As Verywell Mind explains “Studies suggest that CBD may help alleviate symptoms of depression by interacting with serotonin receptors in the brain. Serotonin is a neurotransmitter that plays a role in a range of functions in the body including the regulation of mood. It may help contribute to feelings of happiness and well-being. It is also often implicated in the onset of depression and many types of antidepressant drugs work by increasing serotonin levels in the brain.
One study published in 2018 suggested that cannabidiol does not increase serotonin levels; rather, it appears to work by influencing how the brain responds to serotonin that is already there.
Another study found that CBD had a "clear anti-stress effect," which might play a role in reducing stress levels that contribute to feelings of anxiety and depression.”
Serotonin is one of the most important hormones that is responsible for our mood, feelings of well-being and happiness. It drives brain cells and the nervous system to communicate with each other. It also has a key role in improving our sleep, eating habits and digestion.
Depression, stress and anxiety at work can also cause a massive impact on productivity and wellness. CBD can be a natural solution to all these work-related conditions.
CBD is quite capable of solving a number of health issues, including the potential to relieve work-related stress and anxiety. It is natural with no, or few side effects, but it’s not usually an instant relief - it can take a few weeks to build up in your system before you see the benefits. CBD products can help you feel at ease with yourself and keep a positive life-work balance.
