5 easy decoration tips for the Christmas holidays

Posted on

This year hasn’t been easy, but we have persevered as best as possible. And now, the Christmas holidays will be here before we know it!

And since we are staying home for the holidays, why not make our homes more festive for the season?

Don’t be afraid to go all out this year, that way you can really enjoy the holidays and the joy they can bring you.  You may already have quite a few decorations up. But the time has come to go all out and we have a few tips that will help you along the way.

1.     Card holder

If you want a more festive feel but just don’t have it in you to hang one more piece of garland, then a holiday card holder has you covered.

It allows others to decorate your home for you! You are going to get a bunch of Christmas cards this year anyway, so why not put them to good use and have them decorate your walls.

You can get wall card holders or freestanding ones.  We have a gold metal card holder in the shape of a Christmas tree.  It also keeps all our Christmas cards neat and tidy if like us, you don’t want them all over the place!  We're all for making Christmas time less stressful and this is one way to prevent mess and keep things neat and tidy.

2.     Christmas flowers

These flower arrangements from FTD are stunning and they will instantly change your place. Taking it from normal every day, to Christmas in a flash.

Flowers are an amazing way to instantly decorate a room with an arrangement that will fit any and all occasions, be it birthdays, springtime or Christmas.

They also have something that will hit any price point, just in case you have already finished all your holiday shopping and you didn’t leave too much left over for yourself!

Not only can you bring some festive decoration to your home with a seasonal bunch of flowers, but you can also choose Christmas plants and real wreaths to bring beautiful foliage and nature into your home this year.

3.     Festive doormat

Getting a festive doormat will change the feel of your place pretty quickly. Consider getting a unique doormat for the festive season with a Christmas holiday vibe.

Etsy also has a ton of options to choose from, but we like one that says, “It’s the most wonderful time of the year”! With it at the front door, it gives you instant holiday vibes that you will carry into your home, while not carrying in any dirt!

It will help to remind you how thankful you are to have your home and your health, and it will help you to be extra festive this holiday season.

Other great options include doormats covered in a holly print or a simple ‘ho ho ho’!

4.     Fireplace accessories

Don’t let this be another year that your firewood just sits next to the fireplace or outside in the wheelbarrow.  Getting new fireplace accessories is an easy way to make your space feel a little more festive, all while organising it and making sure you stay cosy and warm this winter!

You can get gorgeous garlands to drape over the mantelpiece, miniature Christmas trees, festive photo frames, special holiday lights, and miniature town sculptures. There are tons of options for making your hearth feel cosier.

There are also functional accessories like firewood organisers to help you get that wood off the floor and it will add a whole new look to your space. This is a “treat yourself” gift that will keep on giving though, because there are no defining Christmas features on them, meaning they will continue to bring you good tidings and cheer (and organisation) the whole year!

If you're wondering how to decorate a small living room for Christmas, then making the fireplace the focal point is a great idea.

5.     Knit throw

A chunky knit throw in a festive holiday colour is a simple way to add holiday cheer to one of the places that sees the most action during the holidays, the living room couch. Warming and winter colours will be what adds to the festive feels, so don’t be afraid to go for a rich, deep cranberry red, or a soft cream that will remind you of snow.

Final word

There are many ways to decorate your home for the festive season on a budget and prevent overspending on Christmas.  Even by adding a new colour throw to your sofa or wreath on your door, you will bring some festive and winter vibes to your home!
