Welcome to my Money Making Blogger interview series where I interview bloggers from around the globe who make money by being a blogger! Yes, it really is possible to earn a living as a blogger nowadays. It's what me and many others are able to call our full-time income, but many people don't understand how it is possible.
I share lots of tips on how I make money blogging in my Make Money Blogging section, but it's also great to learn from other bloggers too. One thing I love about the blogging community is how friendly and open it is. There's room for everyone and we all like to help each other grow and learn from one another.
How to make money as a blogger
Read on to discover how my next interviewee makes money from blogging and the steps they took to monetize their blog. I hope you feel inspired and learn something new from this series.
Learn how many hours they spend on their blogs per week, what sort of income this provides and if there are any cons to blogging for an income.
I've been a full-time blogger for over two yeas and blogging for over six years in total! It still mazes me that I can make money from home as a blogger. BUT, it’s not without a lot of hard work, so don’t be fooled into thinking you simply set up a website and voila, income starts rolling in. If only! I work more hours per week than I did in any full-time employed job - my blog is my life!
In this series I am going to interview other bloggers who also make money from their blogs to hopefully inspire people to start a blog if they wish or to make that leap to monetizing content. I also find it so interesting to learn what other bloggers are up to. Even us full-time bloggers can learn from each other and inspire one another.
Tell us all about you and introduce your blog.
My name is Sam and I blog at www.gridcoregraphics.co.uk. I originally started my blog in 2014 as a place to write down my thoughts on video games I enjoyed playing, tech releases I was looking forward to and my freelance graphic design business.
How long have you been blogging and when did you begin to make money?
I've been blogging for nearly 6 years now and I only started making money from my blog properly only this year because before I wasn't too serious about it, however now that I've networked with some amazing bloggers and found ways to monetise, I've decided to knuckle down!
How much money do you make each month from blogging?
I blog on a part-time basis as I also have a part-time graphic designing gig going on, however sometimes the admin side of things tends to take over my personal life (something I'm trying to work on and balance at the moment!) I make around £200-£400 per month from blogging alone, but sometimes this even diminishes depending on the time of year.
How do you make money blogging?
I make money through a variety of ways; sponsored posts, sponsored tweets, ads and gifted items. My favourite method is sponsored posts as I love writing so it comes easy to me. I find paid work on a variety of blogger outreach sites, contacts I've built over the years and on Facebook/Twitter.
How did you prep your blog to make money? Has it been easy?
I decided to enhance my 'about' page, display my social buttons and have a contact option somewhere. I also had a major re-design (where I thought I had lost all my hard work, but I was just looking in the wrong place..) I would say it's been an easy process, but that's only because someone with expertise in this area has been directing me and supporting me in my blogging journey.
What are your aims for your blog in the future?
I hope to continue blogging, but I'm hoping to supplement this through growing my YouTube channel and streaming on my Twitch channel too, as I'm an avid gamer and have a large following on there too. I'm also going to be looking into freelance writing gigs for sites of interest.
If someone is new to blogging, what are the most important things to focus on if they want to monetize?
Be sure to disclose, know your worth when accepting sponsored content and don't write about something you have no interest in (it will definitely show in your writing!)
Can you think of 3 pros and 3 cons of blogging as a career choice?
(1) Flexibility in working
(2) Work in your PJs!
(3) Doing what I love
(1) No guaranteed income
(3) Hard to keep a work/life balance
What inspires you to blog?
My interest in writing what I love about and seeing my subscriber list growing inspires me because I know people are interested in hearing about what I have to say.
Would blog if you couldn’t make money doing it?
Yes, as I started writing my blog out of a passion for certain subjects and growing my readership through this, I wouldn't really mind if I stopped making money from it, especially as I still have my main form of income through being a graphic designer.
Do you think blogging is here to stay?
Yes, more and more people are disregarding professional publications in favour of relatable bloggers, and with social media platforms continually changing, blogs are the only platform you have full control over alongside your subscriber list to tap into an audience.
Thank you so much for taking part in my Money Making Blogger interview series and best of luck with your blog!
